INVESTIGATION OF A PREMATURE OF A COMPOSITION B-LOADED 120 MM T15E3 HE-T SHELL

During a safety test of Composition B¬loaded T15E3 HE-T shell to determine whether 1/22" base separations in shell will cause premature functioning, the 382nd round fired prematured in the gun tube. Because of the abnormally high chamber pressures at which the shell were inadvertently fired and the appear¬ance of the recovered.base fragment of the shell, there was reason for seriously doubting that base separation by itself had caused the premature.
