The purpose of this document is to explain to the reader the Charpy V-notch impact test. There will be described the purpose and theory of the test, the design of both test machine and specimen, calibration of the machine, how to conduct the test, and the variables which affect results. Also included will be the procedure to be followed by those wishing to have their machines certified as acceptable for Ordnance Corps inspection
