Evaluation of Limitation and Applicability of Solid-State Amplifiers and Remote Viewing Systems for High Voltage Fluoroscopy

The work performed can be svuranarized as follows: (a) The basic physical limitations imposed on attainable detail sensitivity by statistical fluctuation of X-ray photons was studied, Hn the framework of X-ray voltages up to 2 Me?„ (b) Capabilities of the solid-state amplifier in ii§ presentnstate of development were evaluated in this same framework. (e) The minimum requirements for a television remote viewingnsystem, for use with the solid-state amplifier, which wouldnnot appreciably degrade the potential performance of thenamplifier itself were calculated, and reviewed in relationnto the state of the television art.n(d) Several alternatives to the particular system proposed'(which is baaed on the solid-state amplifier and image-orthicon television camera)were considered.n(e) Theoretical performance to be expected from the proposed system was evaluated.n(f) The nature of further development of the solid-state ampli¬fier required in order to permit the performance indicated in (e) was specified. (g) A general recommendation for Phase II is made.
