The orbital motion of the Russian artificial earth satellite 1957 between 1 April 1958 and 14 April 1958, the day of its disintegration, is discussed. The analysis is based on all positional observations available to Project Space Track prior to 22 May 1958. These observations are listed in a catalog. Included in the study are descriptive reports on the decay phenomena as observed from ships and islands in the Caribbean Sea
