Organic Reactions Occurring in or on Micelles. I. Kinetic Studies of the Alkaline Fading of Tripheylmethane Dyes and Sulfonphthalein Indicators in the Presence of Detergent Salts

The fading in alkaline solution of triphenylmethane dyes such as crystal violet is accelerated by the addition of cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTABr) and is retarded by the addition of sodium lauryl sulfate (NaLs). The fading of sulfonphthalein indicstors such as bromphenol blue is not affected by the addition of NaLs, but no fading can be observed in the presence of CTABr.
