Design and Construction of Equipment Used to Operate a Commercial Power Line as a Very Low Frequency Antenna

A system which employs a single-phase, medium voltage power line as a VLF transmitting antenna has been described, and the design and construction of the necessary components have been presented. Excluding the safety network, the only equipment necessary to convert the line into an antenna was 4 high-voltage parallel-resonant circuits 2 low-voltage parallel-resonant circuits 4 series resonant circuits.nA number of possible uses of this antenna system in vertical propagation experiments has been suggested. However, this paper describes only the theory and details of construction of the system as an aid to researchers who may desire to construct a similar system.
