PREPARATION AND PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF DL AND TRINITROTOLUENE ISOMERS

In the manufacture of 2,4,6-trinitro-toluene (TNT), various isomers of TNT and dinitrotoluene (DNT) are formed. A knowledge of the preparation and phys¬ical properties of these isomers would materially help in devising the most efficient methods for the preparation, purification, and quality control of TNT.nThis report includes detailed methods for the preparation of all commercially unavailable isomers of DNT and TNT. In addition it includes the melting points, infrared spectrograms, X-ray diffraction data, and some solubility data on the TNT and DNT isomers.
