摘要

Studies on the Goliath model indicated that for a chosen effective height the average tower height could be made about 10 per cent less if insulated outer structures were used. This would result in a very considerable saving in tower cost. However, this saving would be more than offset by the insulator costs. In addition, maintenance costs would be greater, leaving the insulated structure approach at a disadvantage.nA review of all tests made to determine effect of grounded outer structures indicates a 0.87 reduction factor for the Goliath model with wire top load and a 0.81 factor for the Trideco model. The difference is attributed mainly to the addition of a fourth set of guys near the top in the Trideco design. Model measurements show that the lowering factor for the Triatic antenna with grounded self-supporting towers is about 0.79, roughly equal to that of the Trideco model.
