A GRAPHICAL, COMPUTATIONAL METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE FOURIER TRANSFORM OF A FUNCTION

During 1956 a considerable number of measurements were made in order to determine the Wiener Spectrum of the fluctuations in radiance of the sky immediately above and the sea immediately below the horizon. In analyzing the data it was necessary to determine the Fourier Transform of the optical system's aperture response, i.e., response of the optical system to a point source situated at various horizontal off-axis angles. Since the aperture response was a non-analytic function, the Fourier Transform had to be deter mined graphically. This report outlines a graphical, computational method for determining the Fourier Transform.
