This project was initiated in December 1956, and had as its objective a 10-watt, electrostatically focused, S-band traveling wave amplifier weighing less than 5 lbs.nAfter completion of a partially successful rf test on a demountable tube, work was launched towards making sealed-off tubes. This entailed developing a technique for shrinking a glass envelope to support the bifilar helices, and the construction of helical type couplers and attenuators.nThe name Estiatron has been given to RCA’s line of electrostatically focused traveling wave tubes.
