Observations on the Rare Earths:Chemical and Electrochemical Studies of Solutions of Rare Earth Metal Salts in Anhydrous Dimethyl-formamide

Solvated rare earth iodides having the general formula Lnl3 • 8 DMF have been prepared by the reaction between the appro¬priate hydrated rare earth acetate and acetyl iodide in a dim ethyl -formamide medium (Ln represents La, Pr, Nd, Sm, and Gd, whereas DMF represents dimethylformamide).
