ELECTRONIC COMPUTERS FOR RECONNAISSANCE FIELD UNITS

For several years the Air Force has been attempting to introduce auto¬matic computational techniques and equipment to reconnaissance field units to speed up mathematical operations and reduce manpower requirements. This report describes the RADC development program to obtain a small reconnais¬sance computer to meet field requirements.nThe interim equipment procured and assigned to field units is de¬scribed in detail. The equipment purchased to study programming tech¬niques is also described.nThe experimental equipment designed specifically for field require¬ments is presented in detail and typical problems to be computed on the equipment are discussed.nThe effort to satisfy the operational requirement is about 80 percent complete. Several improvements to the computational equipment are recom-mended as a means of satisfying the existing requirement.
