摘要

In open systems, whiskers were found to grow by diffusion from the base, while evaporation was predominant at the top. Whiskers, which upon growing on the surface of a vanadium pentoxide microsphere at uniform cross section, meet a neighboring sphere, grow suddenly in diameter. It is suggested that whisker formation represents the first stage of sintering of vanadium pentoxide particles.
