INVESTIGATION OF THE COMPARATIVE PERFORMANCE OF TYPE A AND TYPE B BRONZE SILVER BRAZING UNIONS

This report covers the results of an investigation to determine the comparative performance of Type A and Type B bronze silver brazing unions and the suitability of the Type A unions for 400 psi, maximum pressure, and cold service. The results indicate that both types of union are approximately equal with respect to resistance to leakage under conditions of severe vibra¬tion and misalignment of the union faces. Under hydrostatic pressures approaching the bursting strength of the seamless copper tubing for which the unions are intended, the smaller sizes of the Type B unions sustain higher pressures, without leakage, than the corresponding size Type A unions, whereas the reverse is true for the largest size unions. The three sizes of Type a union tested were found to be suitable for 400 psi cold service.
