The Use of Group Decision to Resolve a Problem of Fairness

An experiment is reported on the problem of fairly distributing a reward among group members. An empirical investigation was conducted of the use of the method of group decision in making such a distribution. Thirty groups, varying in size from 2 to 5, in an undergraduate psychology course were each assigned a number of points toward the final grade to be divided among their members, with a net loss to the group for failure to agree.
