A thin cylinder is analyzed for the rotationally symmetric notions caused by the passage of a pressure front of constant velocity along the axis of the cylinder. The method of Virtual Work is applied to a generatri of the cylinder, which is then treated as a beam on an elastic foundation with "free-free" end conditions. The results are presented in terms of three radial deflections components:(a) bending deflections, (b) rigid body translations, and (c) rigid body rotations.
