FACTORS AFFECTING DEPHOSPHORIZATION AND DESULPHURIZATION IN BASIC ELECTRIC STEEL PRODUCTION

Statistical analysis of equilibrium steelmaking data indicated good correlation was obtained when: (1) the dephosphorising power was a logarithmic function of a slag parameter equal to the product of the slag’s basicity times its oxidizing power, and (2) the desulphurizing power was a logarithmic function of a slag parameter equal to the quotient of the slag’s basicity divided by its oxidizing power. Slag and metal compositions existing during the production of 4140, high nickel 4325, 4330 and 1040 A.I.S.I. basic-electric steels were statistically analyzed using the same logarithmic relationships.
