Effect of Dielectric Constant on Certain Characteristics of Plane Electromagnetic Waves in Nonmagnetic Conductive Media

The error resulting from omission of the dielectric constant as a factor in expressions for the rate of attenuation, the phase velocity, and the wavelength of plane electromagnetic waves in nonmagnetic media has been considered. The variation of these quantities as a function of frequency for water of various conductivities has been calculated, with special attention given to the case of sea water. Universal curves applicable to any nonmagnetic media are presented for use in propagation studies.
