The technical record of the design and construction of Cachuma Dam is divided into six chapters. Chapter I discusses history, climate, project location, purpose and plan and presents a general description of the dam and a cost summary. Chapter II is devoted to geology while chapter III contains a discussion on the exploration and testing for embankment materials. Chapter IV, Design, is devoted to discussions of the design of the various structures comprising the dam. Chapter V, Contract Administration, contains factual information on the major construction contract, data on Government organization, and the safety record of the contractor. A comprehensive narrative of the construction is included in chapter VI, and chapter VII discusses reservoir clearing operations.
