Investigations are being conducted on the basic factors involved in the breakup of liquids and the formation of aerosols. The breakup of liquids is being studied under conditions similar to those that occur in spraying from high-speed aircraft and in explosive dissemination. This report describes an investigation of the breakup of drops of agent simulants (Newtonian liquids) and of polymer solutions in agent simulants (non-Newtonian viscoelastic liquids) when subjected to a high-velocity air stream.
