An investigation was conducted to determine the effect upon impact properties and types of fractures of heat-treated investment castings when varying amounts of aluminum are added to the melt for deoxidation. Tests were made on modified Charpy V-notched impact bars made by the investment-casting process of 4150 and Cr-Mo-V steels. Test procedure is described, and results discussed.
