Work was initiated for the development of an age-harden able Fe-Al-Mn-C alloy with low density, good oxidation resistance, high strength, and good ductility at intermediate temperatures (1100 to 1400 F).nFrom the results of phase studies performed in Phase I, a single-phase (austenitic) alloy and a two-phase (austenitic and ferrite) alloy were selected for precipitation hardening studies.nStudies performed under Phase II resulted in the development of a stable age hard enable alloy possessing excellent room temperature strength and good elevated temperature strength with oxidation resistance at 1800 F approaching that of Type 304.
