INVESTIGATION OF THE COMPARATIVE PERFORMANCE OF “0” RING AND RECTANGULAR RING DESIGN UNIONS INTENDED FOR HIGH PRESSURE SERVICE

Results are reported of an investigation of the comparative performance of “0” ring and rectangular ring design unions intended for use in the pres¬sure range of 3000-5000 psi. The “0” ring design unions were found to be lighter in weight and smaller in overall size than the corresponding size rectangular ring design unions and were found to be approximately equal in performance to the rectangular ring unions with respect to pressure tightness under conditions of severe vibration, high flexural loads, and high internal hydrostatic pressures.
