The Heat of Polymerization of Phenyl Glycidyl Ether and of an Epoxy Resin. PartⅡ. Effect of Alcohol on the Polymerization

In a previous report the heats of polymerization of phenyl glycidyl ether were compared with those of an epoxy resin for a variety of polymerization catalysts. In those experiments 20 parts by weight of ethylene glycol per 100 parts of phenyl glycidyl ether were added to the ether to serve as a cocatalyst. In the present report it is demonstrated that, when lesser amounts of alcohol are used, the measured heats of polymerization are not significantly different from the values obtained earlier.
