Specification Development on “Enamel-B”nFilm Insulated High Temperature Magnet Wire

The Material Laboratory has conducted an evaluation of “Enamel-B”film insulated magnet wires submitted by Westinghouse Electric Corporation for information purposes and for the further developspnt. of . specification MIL-W-19583(NAVY). The wires were evaluated as to their electrical and physical Characteristics after various conditionings. Results indicated that except for a slight dimensional discrepancy in the insulation thickness of No. 32 wire, there was conformity with the specification requirements for Type I, Class 2 of MIL-W-19583(NAVY), and Amendment 1. The wires showed considerable promise of operating at 130°C and at least short periods at temperatures as high as 155°C.
