This report describes the pyroelectric effect of a cadmium sulfide crystal and determines the values of its pyroelectric constant in the temperature range -195°C and 72°C.nThis is the first time that the temperature dependence of a pyroelectric constant has been determined for a covalent type crystal. The method used to measure the response and to determine the values of the pyroelectric constant are described. The experimental error in the values of the pyroelectric constant is estimated for each of the ambient temperatures at which the effect was measured. A new theory is developed to explain the temperature dependence observed.
