A study of future Ordnance vehicle characteristics, their power requirements, and of known sources of electrical energy leads to the conclusion that an electrical propulsion system can provide marked, new capabilities in mobility and that the fuel cell system offers the best possibility of providing the required power plant.nA fuel cell/electric motor system can provide many of the desired characteristics of a propulsion system, such asn(1) utilization of a variety of fuels at a new level of efficiencyn(2) freedom in vehicle designn(3) low field maintenance, andn(4) lessened field detectabilitynMajor technical advances are required both in terms of fuel cells and motors before a practical objective can be met.
