HUMAN ENGINEERING TESTING AND MALFUNCTION DATA COLLECTION IN WEAPON SYSTEM TEST PROGRAMS

The uncertainties encountered in weapon system development make weapon system test programs necessary. A weapon system test program is conducted to determine whether the system meets or approaches its design objectives, and where it does not to determine the nature and extent of the deviations. Within this framework, it is the responsibility of the human factors engineer to determine whether operations performed by humans in the system meet performance predictions, and, where they do not to determine the nature and extent of the deviations in order that design and procedural improvements can be made.
