摘要

0n November 1960, a 256-pound high explosive cratering experiment was conducted at the Chariot test site, northwestern Alaska. The explosive was detonated at a depth of 8.7 feet in steeply dipping thinly bedded mudstone of the Tiglukpuk Formation of Late Jurassic age. The mudstone was frozen to a depth of 1.5 feet, thawed between l.5 and 4.0 feet below the surface, and permanently frozen below 4.O feet from the surface.
