'Quarpel' Multipurpose Protective Finish For Textiles

So promising is this finish that some textile experts believe that it could well obsolete many present finishes for rainwear, when and if it is applied on a large scale commercially. To date, the use of this finish has been confined to military and more expensive civilian rainwear, owing partially to the cost of the chemicals that are required for the process. The finish, called "Quarpel", derives its excep¬tional protective power from a fluorocarbon incorpo¬rated into a standard quaternary ammonium-salt water-repellent formulation. Fluorocarbons are highly hyd-rophobic, or water repellent, but they are relatively costly.
