Design of a Deep Ocean Drilling Ship

摘要

The report by the Technical Staff of the AMSOC Committee summarizes its work on plans and design for converting a C1-M-AV1 cargo vessel into an oceanic drilling ship. It is the opinion of the Staff, as expressed in this report, that the objective of penetrating the upper mantle can be attained most effectively and most expeditiously by following up the initial drilling performed near Guadalupe Island by an intermediate experimental drilling stage, preliminary to an all-out attempt to drill to the upper mantle. The converted C1-M-AV1, described in this report, is the Staff's answer to the need for an experimental drilling vessel to accomplish the objectives of such an intermediate stage. (Author)
