A PROMISING GOVERNMENT-DEVELOPED BRAKE-FLUID CORROSION INHIBITOR AN EVALUATION OF COMMERCIAL APPLICATIONS

Research at the Chemical and Coating Laboratory, Aberdeen Proving Ground, has led to development of a chemical complex which can be used as a multipurpose corrosion inhibitor in hydraulic brake fluids.nThe inhibitor, in laboratory tests, gives excellent corrosion inhibition, improved stability and storage properties, good rubber compatibility, increased boiling point, and is soluble in all standard brake fluids. Largely because of its effects in minimizing the staining of copper and brass, it enables some brake fluids that fail to meet government specifications to pass these rigid standards. The inhibitor should be readily adaptable for use in at least seventy-five per cent of the commercial brake fluids marketed today.
