Some Aspects of Sawing Accuracy in Circular Mills.

Small circular sawmills seldom cut lumber to precise limits--at least consistently. This sawing inaccuracy results in large quantities of miscut lumber that may be either undersized or oversized. Thus a sizable percentage of the potential yield from the log is either wasted or finds its way into lower value products such as chips and shavings. Thisstudy was undertaken primarily to furnish information on the sizing accuracy characteristics and capabilities of a well-maintained circular mill when sawing small diameter loblolly pine (Pinus taeda) logs into nominal 2- by 4-inch studs, 8 feet in length.
