From a collection of technical literature it is shown that specific heat and overall heat transfer co-efficient of various gases can be expressed approximately as linear functions of temperature of the fluids undergoing heat transfer. In case of linear fluid properties, a general equation is worked out describing the temperature of both the fluids. Suggestions are forwarded for the solution of this highly nonlinear differential equation. Some particular cases are discussed, one of which is suitable for better design of fire tube boilers.
