Experimental Determination of Intermodulation Distortion Produced in a Wideband Communications Repeater

One method for providing a multiple access capability for satellite communications systems, utilizes a large number of angle modulated carriers, separated in frequency, and amplified by a common wideband repeater. The key to this method is the 'multiple access efficiency' of the communications repeater when operating with many carriers in the wideband mode. Essentially, the problem is one of determining the usable output power and the level and nature of the intermodulation products that are produced for an arbitrary frequency plan containing a large number of input signals.
