Frost Scaling on Concrete Roads

To evaluate the extent to which concrete road surfaces in Great Britain had been affected by the exceptionally severe weather a survey was made of a number of post-war concrete roads. The inspections of these roads were carried out in such a way that a quantitative record was obtained. The damage was also classified into several types, mainly according to its location relative to joints and cracks. It was hoped that such information would lead to a fuller understanding of the way in which frost-scaling occurred and would throw some light on the major factors controlling the incidence of damage.
