A Laboratory Investigation of the Physical and Chemical Properties of Burnt Colliery Shale

The report describes an investigation of the physical and chemical properties of burnt colliery shale from a large deposit near the proposed route of the new Trunk Road A.8 in West Lothian. Large samples were taken from the surface of this deposit, the selection of the shale being made on a colour and texture basis. The samples were subjected to standard tests to determine their suitability for use in road construction. (Author)
