Synthetic Resin Primer for Coal-Tar Enamel. A Water Resources Technical Publication

This report describes laboratory research and field experience which was initially directed toward evaluating the bonding qualities of coal-tar primer. This work, which also included synthetic resin primed coatings, revealed a significant conclusion: synthetic resin primers were remarkably superior as effective and foolproof bonding agents for coal-tar enamel. As a result, coal-tar primers were subsequently deleted from Bureau of Reclamation specifications. Several field applications of coal-tar enamels using synthetic resin primers are described in this report with details given as to installation, techniques, length of service, and exposure conditions.
