The thesis reports on the results and applications of a laboratory investigation of ultraviolet lines that might be observed in the solar spectrum. One hundred and two new lines are identified in the spectra of S IX, S X, S XI, S XII, C1 IX, C1 X, C1 XI, C1 XII, C1 XIII, A X, A XI, A XII, A XIII, K XI, K XII. and K XIII. The identified transitions occur between the 2S(2)2p(n) and 2S2p(n+1), n=1-5, configurations in the boron, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and fluorine isoelectronic sequences. Energies are computed for the levels occurring in these configurations.
