STUDIES ON THE PREPARATION OF AN INACTIVATED RUBELLA VIRUS VACCINE.

Rubella virus inactivated by various methods, betapropiolactone and U.V.,formalin and U.V.,and MgCl2and U.V. were tested for antigenicity in African Green Monkeys and ferrets. Various materials were also tried out as adjuvants,namely Al(OH)3,cholesterol and hexadecylamine. African Green monkeys showed a minimal response to formalin-U.V. inactivated virus. Methods for increasing the titer of rubella virus were investigated. These include the use of AGMK cells in roller bottles,incorporation of human serum albumin in the medium and incorporation of para-phenylenediamine in the medium. Improvement of the serum neutralization test was sought by use of mycoplasma-free RK13cells and use of SIRC cells. (Author)
