摘要

The vehicle for intramuscular injection of NSC 17256E consists of cotton seed oil with 5% benzyl alcohol and 15% benzyl benzoate. The treatment with the control vehicle was generally well tolerated and the 2 dogs tested gained weight. Toxic symptoms consisted in leukocytosis with eosinophilia and monocytosid and in elevation of the enzymes SGOT and SGPT. One dog also reacted with elevated BSP retention on day 14 and with prolongation of prothrombin time on days 17, 28, and 42. These findings suggest then that the elevation of transaminases was caused by local inflammation at the injection sites. The observation, however, that the SGPT usually reached slightly higher values than the SGOT militates against this interpretation and supports the conclusion that the elevation of the transaminases resulted, at least in part, from liver damage. For chemotherapy in humans, a vehicle should be devoid of toxic side effects. Observations in two dogs appear to indicate that this is not the case for this vehicle. (Author)
