Dielectric Measurements of Asphalt Content

A research project was instituted to determine the possibility of measuring the asphalt content of asphalt plant mixes by measuring the dielectric content of the mix. After considerable work, it was concluded that the dielectric readings were as dependent upon the density of the mix as on the asphalt content. Therefore, it was concluded that it is impractical to try to measure asphalt content by dielectric means. The avenue of determining the density of asphalt mixes through dielectric measurements was opened, however. Research into this possibility is currently underway. (BPR-Abstract)
