Numerous studies in the adaptation of rubella virus to chick embryo tissue culture have been carried out with several virus strains. These studies have met with little success beyond the first few passages. The production of interferon by rubella virus in chick embryo tissue culture was not detected. The study of sensitivity of various primary and continuous tissue culture systems was undertaken. Rubella HA antigen production in AGMK cells was attempted. The use of deoxycholate for the preparation of HA antigen was considered to offer no advantage over the Tween 80-ether treatment. (Author)
