Thermal Conductivity in Small Air Gaps at Very Low Pressures

An analysis was made to determine the pressure conditions which must exist in narrow air gaps for the thermal conductivity to be significantly lowered and to determine the time required for these conditions to be reached in a typical system. The air flow calculations were confirmed with a test and it is concluded that the proper conditions can be achieved only in the most specialized cases. (Author)
