摘要

The 1967 annual report contains information on 13 phases of establishment and use of turf and other ground covers as well as the control of undesirable vegetation along Nebraska roadsides. This continuing study includes an evaluation of the adaptability of cool and warm season grasses, and varieties of crownvetch, to both eastern and western Nebraska. Preliminary findings in eastern Nebraska indicate that crownvetch can be established in one growing season. Perrenial grasses require annual spring applications of nitrogen. The most adaptable of the 13 grasses tested were: Fairway crested wheatgrass, Lincoln bromegrass, Nebraska 98256 tall wheatgrass, Sterling orchardgrass, and Kentucky 31 and tall fescue. In western Nebraska, Standard and Fairway crested wheatgrass and Nebraska 50' intermediate wheatgrass gave the best performance after two growing seasons. The renovation of highway slopes with the use of crownvetch has been studied. Early results indicate that better stands could be obtained by reseeding in conventional manner. Investigations that are continuing concern mulches for grass establishment and erosion control, nitrogen fertilization requirements of Kentucky bluegrass and methods and materials for week control.
