Field Studies to Determine the Factors Contributing to Elevated Concentrations of Cs-137 in Jamaican Milk

The variability of the concentration of Cesium-137 in milk has been studied in a North-South transect across the island, and the results reported previously. The seasonal dependence was investigated by collecting weekly milk samples from the three main milksheds since the end of 1965. A seasonal dependence was observed for two of the milksheds, Mandeville and Montpelier, for two and one-half years and appears to be related to the rainfall. Accordingly, collection of samples of pooled milk from each milkshed has continued during 1967 and 1968. (Author)
