Comprehensive Water Supply Plan. Part 1. Data Summary: Public Water Supply Systems

This report compiles basic water supply system inventory information, and evaluates those system and operational records which are applicable to comprehensive water supply planning. Compiled data and evaluations indicate that 56 existing water supply systems have particular importance to area planning, due to capability for being expanded. The inventories include 200 separate systems, both municipally and privately owned, which serve water to the public. County and state boards of health approvals exceed $14,000,000 for water supply construction since 1964, totaling over 250 water supply improvements within the county. Twenty-four municipal systems are installing or expanding water supply facilities during this period, including 126 distribution improvements, three new distribution systems, and 19 supply or treatment works improvements with five new municipal type treatment plants. Approved public water supply systems serve approximately 95 percent of municipal residents and 99 percent of subdivision and mobile home residents. Water quality analyses from 37 of the smaller privately-owned supplies show the presence of alkyl benzene sulfonate (ABS), an indicator of sewage pollution. (Author)
