The Effect of the Matrix on Aggregate Retention and Surface Wear Characteristics of Bituminous Surfaces

The project is concerned with determining the effect of the matrix (filler and binder) on the wear characteristics of bituminous surface mixtures and the subsequent effect on pavement life and skid resistance. The laboratory investigation covered by the report consisted of: Design and construction of a simulated traffic wear device; preparation of test samples; subjecting test samples to simulated traffic wear; making quantitative and qualitative measurements of surface wear; and analysis of data.
