A Study of the Relationships Between Reflectance, Microprofile and Skid Resistance Characteristics of Highway Surfaces

The principal areas of concern in the study were the development of a device to measure light reflectance from highway surfaces, skid resistance, and development of a profile index to describe surface texture. This final report summarizes the initial progress made by the Institute for Research in Vision in the design and development of a reflectometer, and data collected with this device, and by the Transportation Research Center in the evaluation of skid resistance and the measurement of profile index for the simulated highway surfaces tested.
