The Synoptics, Dynamics and Energetics of the Temporal Using Satellite Radiation Data. Activation of the Intertropical Trough Zone West of Central America by Interhemispherical Influences

During the time period of 4-6 November 1963, a tropical storm developed within the Intertropical Trough Zone just west of Costa Rica, Central America. The storm is locally known as the 'temporal'. In the present report, no detail about the storm structure is offered. The author would rather like to dwell on the question of how the Intertropical Trough Zone west of Panama and Costa Rica became active and generated the 'temporal'. However, the sequence of synoptic surface charts is presented to facilitate a gradual familiarization with the case. (Author)
